Change is Good!
…It has been an interesting week.

Last Wednesday I called my former boss and mentor frustrated and angry with my current employer. You see, I can abide many things but being patronized is not one of them. So under his counsel I put all my thoughts on my time at the pub to paper and even had it proofread by my mentor, with the full intention of delievering in to him to read over the weekend at the conclusion of my shift on Friday.

Friday came, and things didn’t go so well, even before I had the opportunity to given him the letter. We were shortstaffed and that particular Friday was the busiest lunch we have had in my time there – the kitchen actually had a ‘white-out’. It was busy, hell it was DAMN busy, but we knuckled down and got it done, everyone got their food, and we did it all with smiles on our faces. Unfortuately the Chef went on the war path and whined to the owner that it was a catastrophe and then he arrived on a tear, and… well lets just say it wasn’t pretty. After his initial explosion I tried to talk to him but he would have none of it, I asked him to give me five minutes and read the letter… which he proceeded to metaphoricly throw it back in my face. After it was obvious that he wasn’t going to listen to me – I removed the work keys from my carabiner and placed them on the desk announing my resignation effective immediatlely.

I interviewed for the Operations Manager position with a new fresh food market store (opening at the end of June) that is being started by two regulars of the Pub, who lept at the opportunity to possibily hire me for this position and we had a very good interview on Monday and I expect to neogotiate salary, stock options and benefits over the coming week. It’s a really good concept and they are well funded and have a good vision for what is to be a chain of stores in the near future, so it could be a very good company to get in on at the ground floor with.

On Tuesday one of my former cohorts in the hospitality industry called me at the Rose and Crown to reschedule a meeting that both of us had rescheduled or cancelled over the past month only to discover that I was no longer working there. He then called me on my phone and offered me a position for three weeks as they are going to be the host hotel for the NHL during the Stanley Cup Finals, so I went in and negotiated a short-term employment deal that could turn into a full-time position should the afformentioned offer with the market store not come through.

All in all, it’s been a good week. :)
