Holding Pattern
So… as expected I received an offer from the hotel in Grande Prairie an offer that I am willing to accept, except for one small problem: accommodation. Now for those of you who do not know Grande Prairie like many places in northern Alberta ‘red-hot’ in economic terms and housing is at a premium.
I can’t find accommodation, and the GM at the property has been looking for a place for me for several days, but so far has come up dry, which means I’ve been in a holding pattern for a little under a week… and I’m not liking it. With the prospect of being elsewhere on my mind almost constantly (and the immediate start) my mind hasn’t been entirely here, where it should be.
The GM was supposed to call me yesterday, but that didn’t happen… nor did they call today. Which means I’ll call tomorrow morning and settle it one way or the other so that I either move, or move on to other options – rather than sitting here with my ‘thumb up my ass’ waiting.
Halloween tomorrow is also a DJ night here in Kananaskis and with gaming cancelled on account of it being Halloween, and I’m likely going to stay here for a few of my days off. I’ve recently starting gaming here with a few people and I think I’ll be able to move them slowly off the hack & slash bandwagon and into more in-depth role-playing… it’ll be tough, but I’ve always liked a challenge and the next probable night is Tuesday, which means I’ll likely only be up Wednesday and Thursday (assuming of course that I don’t suddenly move to Grande Prairie).

It’s a Wrap!
This was an interesting and mostly productive trip up to Edmonton, tying up the loose ends on a couple of outstanding issues the most prominent being Purgatory. Although I did manage to ambush the ex and settle the matter that ‘vexed me so’ as mentioned in my last posting.
I had thought that we had ended the relationship cordially (although apparently in recent revisionist history that apparently wasn’t the case), and I was doing my best to be supportive of her new relationship and wishing her the best. However, apparently she had been busily focusing upon all the negative aspects of me and our relationship and was consequently vilifying me… and I could see it. Now conversing with her is a challenge at the best of times, and this case is not exception. But I got my concerns off my chest, and I spoke honestly and frankly. She is now free to hate me or not as she wishes – I’m not going to worry about it any further.
The Purgatory wrap party on the other hand was a very positive experience for me, well worth the hit in the paycheck for taking an additional two nights off work. I think I am in a much healthier mindset now and am prepared to join Anne and Dave in running Purgatory 3, pending a stable network connection or relocation to Edmonton.
There was a dark shadow that I blundered into (in my typical way), as I entered into a very uncomfortable conversation with a friend who is going through a tough time. I touched on a very raw nerve – Ooops. They say that then road to hell is paved with good intentions, and I have rarely seen a more apt display of human ignorance in action – that I displayed there.
In other news, I have an interview next week for a position in Grande Prairie – the salary figure is sufficient for me to at least entertain the notion…. I’ll keep people informed.

A notable downside to not working in my office is the lack of reliable internet access and impulse opportunity to blog... right now blogging is an undertaking to accomplish.
The weekly commute to Edmonton is going quite well, and I have been able to reconnect with a number of old friends which is very good. I do however feel a fight coming - and I expect that the explosion will take place on my next trip and an important relationship will either return to friendship or be shattered into a million pieces. I would normally get into it more, but although they don't read my blog others close to them do, and I would prefer to attempt to settle this privately rather than blowing it wide open. I'm very, very, upset over the matter and I will see a resolution: one way or the other.
Here in K-Country things are gliding along, although I'm missing the guest contact portion I really enjoyed in my former position, I do enjoy actually 'cooking', plating for banquets, etc. As an aside, I was called to the desk in my other capacity as a go-to-person to fix a problem when the guest at the desk took off his motorcycle helmet to reveal: Brad Pitt. One of the two desk girls was gobsmacked and started acting like a fangirl, while the other was totally unfazed... unfortunately he and Anjelina weren't staying with us, although they did make dinner reservations.
I'm going over my options at this point, I don't think I'll remain in the valley for much longer, and an currently applying for positions in Edmonton, Calgary and just recently with a couple of cruise lines.
