Dubya Dubya III (WWIII)
The world is at the cusp of a third world war. I read a lots of Noam Chomsky, and while I personally consider myself a moderate, I respect his opinions and agree that the United States is guilty of thinly-veiled imperialism.
If the United States goes to war without the consent of the United Nations, the backlash against western nations who support the will be massive. Pakistan, a nuclear power and a UN Security Council Member – will likely be unable to retain a cohesive government under General Pervez Musharraf. The extreme political and religious element of Pakistan, under constant watch and curbed through the use of military force will very likely be pushed beyond their limit and the limit of military power to control. When the dust settles, Pakistan – and it’s nuclear arsenal – will very likely be I the hands of a handful of Islamic extremists.
Should Canada agree to participate in this fool’s mission without the consent of the UN, it will very well be the dawn of a new era where Canada, instead of being a ‘terrorist haven’, in the eyes of the world becomes a target – much like the United States.
The fallout of this debacle is vast and clouded in possibilities. Will North Korea take the opportunity of a distracted US to seize the technological centers of the South? Will China exploit American weakness and take back its rogue province of Taiwan, perhaps even eying the untapped resources of Siberia with lust? Will Saddam Hussein target Israel with his concealed chemical, biological and possibly even nuclear weapons – if so, will Pakistan allow another Muslim nation to be targeted so heinously without reprisal? Will the current strife in the Middle East escalate to open warfare between Islamic states and the US/Israeli coalition?
I do not know. However, here is to hoping that we are not the last generation of man.
